Roles

The kinds of people who use Tangle Campus and what each can do.

Role	What it means	How someone gets it
Student	A student with a Tangle Campus account, active in one university circle at a time. Can browse, post, join and create according to their circle's settings.	Signs up with a phone number and chooses a university.
Verified student	A student who has confirmed their university email address. Verification links the student to a home university and is required to join associations.	Enters a code sent to their university email address.
University admin	Administers a university circle. Can curate highlights, moderate content, and, when the circle restricts it, is the person who creates posts, events and groups.	Assigned by Tangle.
Tangle administrator	Manages the list of countries, universities and venues across Tangle Campus.	Assigned by Tangle.
Club member	A student who has joined a club, directly or after the club accepts their request.	Joins an open club, or is accepted by a club officer. Some clubs charge a membership fee.
Club officer	A club member with a position. The positions are president, vice president, treasurer, secretary, events officer, membership officer and communications. Each position unlocks a defined set of actions such as posting, creating events, managing members or handling finance.	The club president assigns positions. The student who creates a club starts as president.
Event organiser	The person who created an event. Can approve join requests, manage the waiting list and check attendees in.	Creates an event.
Group admin	A member who manages a group, including approving join requests.	Creates a group, or is made an admin of one.
Association member	A verified student who has joined a cross-university association, either directly or after officer approval, depending on the association's policy.	Requests to join from the circle switcher.
Association officer	An association member holding a position. Some positions need confirmation by the association's board before they take effect.	Claims a position, which the board confirms.
Mentor	A member of a mentorship programme who supports mentees and can add programme information.	Added to a mentorship programme.
Tangle staff	A member of Tangle's team who supports mentorship programmes through the Staff app. Which programmes and actions are available depends on the role the team gives them.	Signs up in the Staff app and is approved by an administrator.
Student Assistant	A student who supports mentorship programmes through the Staff app.	Signs up in the Staff app with an existing student account and is approved by an administrator.
